Abstract

Moroccan banking groups have carried out a series of interesting establishments in the last two decades in the UEMOA zone. The AWB group has two main subsidiaries in the UEMOA zone, the BOA group has seven subsidiaries and the BCP group is based on its subsidiary ABI, which operates in all the countries of the zone. Hence in this work we question the determinants of choice of this form, by theoretically analyzing the presence and development conditions of Moroccan groups in this zone.

Two conclusions emerge from this work. First, the three Moroccan banking groups adopt the form of subsidiary in their establishments in the UEMOA zone, according to the census of the forms of presence. Secondly, the retail banking activity represents the main segment of development of the activity of Moroccan banking groups in the UEMOA zone, according to the results of the financial reports, and it is more adapted with the choice of the form of subsidiary in the establishment, because it allows to benefit, from the establishment, from an existing network, and a known brand.
