Abstract

This study focuses on analysing the training needs of primary school educational inspectors. The study is based on a survey conducted amongst a sample of 62 inspectors, using a questionnaire structured in three sections: general information, skills actually acquired, and required skills. This questionnaire was supplemented by semi-structured interviews to explain and explore the findings in greater depth. The analysis of the results centred primarily on the Priority Needs Index (PNI).

The results show that educational inspectors need to strengthen their skills, particularly in the areas of audit (average PNI = 4.07) and educational support (average PNI = 3.61). This finding can be explained by various factors, such as a lack of training and excessive workloads.

The value of this study lies in its aim to fill a research gap identified in the literature on the continuing professional development of education professionals. Indeed, to date, no study has genuinely focused on analysing the training needs of inspectors.
